Figures he'd be asleep when I got here...

[There's a Tifa holding a Budew in one arm, the little pokémon makes a little happy noise at the camera]

Hey, so I made it to Azalea finally and turns out my travelling partner is in that coma thing. Nurse Joy says he's been like this for a while, so I'm assuming he's doing that thing where you go to sleep for a while and wake up and suddenly you're more knowledgeable about what happens in your future.

That is still happening, right? I don't have to worry about him, or anything, right?

[She gives the 'gear a skeptical look. Then there's some sounds and Tifa looks away from the camera for a moment.]

Also... [She turns the device and now there's a weedle and a caterpie on screen.]

These two little guys have been following me around since a bit before arriving at Violet. They won't go when I tell them too, but they won't fight my Johnny or let themselves get caught, what's up with that? It's nearly been two weeks! I've been leaving them alone but with the way the nights have been recently....

I don't know...

So they've been following you, and they look like they're planning on doing that for the foreseeable future, but they don't want to be caught?

... I have to admit, that baffles me a little. I'm trying to come up with an explanation, but nothing comes to mind unless... maybe they want your protection, but they don't want an actual trainer?

[Which doesn't make much sense to her, but it's about the most reasonable thing she can think of.]

As for your friend... he's probably okay. It should just be a memory coma. Although...

[She stops there, and shakes her head. No, no point in worrying her.] No, nevermind.

I thought that too. They'll eat the food I give them and stick close enough that I can keep an eye on them, but otherwise I can't seem to get much closer. They won't get close to my Cubone either. But my Budew seems to have befriended them.

I've never heard of anything like this happening before so I wanted to see if anyone else might've known. Thank you.

[She doesn't really seem concerned, just curious]

I'm glad those are still going on! I don't know what I'd do if it turned out that they didn't happen anymore and I was stuck with a comatose partner. [And now Tifa's a bit serious]

I'd like to hear any concerns you might have, though.

Well... [She frowns, considering how best to phrase her thoughts.]

These past couple of weeks, things have started getting strange. Menacing. It does that every year about this time, or so I'm told. I've only been here during this season for one before now.

Your partner is probably just getting his memories, but... tell me, does he seem to be sleeping peacefully, or having a nightmare?

Hm...I was worried about that. Yeah, I can confirm that it's happened before too. It seems he might be under that influence then, because he's not have a peaceful rest at all.

Then he's probably in the same position as my friend Rainbow Dash. I don't know what exactly is happening, but I've never seen the memory comas be anything other than restful, deep sleep. Deep enough that one might be concerned if you didn't know better.

The problem, of course, is that I don't know what exactly is going on to cause this. There were widespread nightmares leading up to this, according to the network, but as I didn't experience them I can't be much more specific.

...Did your Rainbow Dash friend have nightmares before she was put in the coma?

Several. I think the final number was three. Am I correct in assuming the same is true of your partner?

Can't say for sure, he's a quiet fellow. But I do remember seeing stuff about nightmares on this thing. And I know for sure one of them is in that coma thing too.

At first I didn't think anything but now...maybe there's a connection after all.

The evidence is all circumstantial, but you know the old saying. Once is chance, twice is coincidence, but three times implies something more.

And I'm pretty sure that if we check back through the network, we'll find a lot more than three examples of this.

Surely. Besides, with weird stuff happening the last two Octobers I was here for, I'd say it's pretty safe to assume something is happening again.

...Do you think this and the sudden influx of ghost pokémon have anything to do with each other...?

I'd place a pretty big wager on it, and I'm not usually much of a gambler. Of course, what they have to do with each other is a completely different question. Are the ghost Pokemon causing the nightmares? Were they attracted by the same force that's been causing them, if they aren't the ones doing it? Were they sent to hinder us from helping the ones who are sleeping? I think if we could answer that question, we'd be a lot closer to finding the source of all this.

It's too bad we can't talk to pokémon...I know there was a guy like that here the first time I was around, but...

Is there any one who can talk to pokémon?

A friend of mine could, but she's been sent home... Although, some Psychic types, like my Alakazam, can talk to us through telepathy. We could use them as interpreters.

Assuming the ghosts are willing to tell us anything...

Well, nothing ventured, nothing gained, right?

At least you can say you tried. I can't say I'm very useful in this situation.

No Psychic-types? I recommend trying to get an Abra when you get to Goldenrod. They're hard to catch but very worth it. I know it doesn't really help now, but it's something to keep in mind.

In the meantime, I guess the next time I have to go out to intimidate them from getting too close to the inn I'm staying at, I'll try to see if Starswirl can talk to one of them. May as well faint two Flying-types with one Rock attack.

[She pauses for a brief moment, then facepalms.]

Did I just say that last part out loud?

[She laughs]

Seems like you've gotten used to the place. That's good at least. You've got a good head on those shoulders. I'll definitely look into a psychic type, though. I don't think I had one last time I was here. I had a ghost type, though.

Well I've been here almost two years, I very well should be used to it by now. Thank you, though. I appreciate the affirmation of my role in our little group.

[Her lips quirk up.]

That is to say, the smart one.

[She grins.]

An infuriating role, I imagine. It's a good skill to have here, though. Good to know we've still got people who can keep their feet on the ground around.

It's a good role to have back home too, even if it does drive me crazy every so often. I'm used to it at least. And at least a couple of my friends have a decent dose of common sense to chip in. AJ in particular.

As for keeping one's feet on the ground, we don't mention that saying around Rainbow. She was a flier back home and we try not remind her that she can't do that here.

Ah yes, the ever troubling matter of having something important and so inherently you taken away.

Well, it's both a blessing a curse to find out that's still going on.

My whole group suffers from that particular problem. We weren't exactly human before arriving, so...

[She shrugs. That really kind of says it all.]

We've all more or less adapted, at least. Which is something of a minor miracle, or a demonstration that you really can get used to almost anything if you have to.

Oh! I can only imagine. It's good to hear you're all adapting well enough, though.

What about you? I'm guessing by your earlier comment that this is a problem you're familiar with as well.

Well, my first year or so of being around, there were so many people around. You got to really talk to a lot of different sort of people. Humans, non-humans, magic, peculiar sciences, ect.

I'm sure there's still a lot that will surprise me, but I've gotten used to the extraordinary...well extraordinary in my perspective.

See, that's exactly the sort of perspective I've gained on this sort of thing, which tends to lead to me being a bit confused when people are so... doubtful about what others tell them about their homeworlds. I mean, liars and the insane exist, certainly, but at this point I'm willing to give just about anyone the benefit of the doubt.
