[There's a Tifa holding a Budew in one arm, the little pokémon makes a little happy noise at the camera]

Hey, so I made it to Azalea finally and turns out my travelling partner is in that coma thing. Nurse Joy says he's been like this for a while, so I'm assuming he's doing that thing where you go to sleep for a while and wake up and suddenly you're more knowledgeable about what happens in your future.

That is still happening, right? I don't have to worry about him, or anything, right?

[She gives the 'gear a skeptical look. Then there's some sounds and Tifa looks away from the camera for a moment.]

Also... [She turns the device and now there's a weedle and a caterpie on screen.]

These two little guys have been following me around since a bit before arriving at Violet. They won't go when I tell them too, but they won't fight my Johnny or let themselves get caught, what's up with that? It's nearly been two weeks! I've been leaving them alone but with the way the nights have been recently....

I don't know...

Hmm. Did you catch anything just before they started following you? When I caught Twinkle, Beat basically forced me to catch him as well.

Normally I'd say you don't have to worry, but considering the number of people suffering the same affliction, my current guess is on something else.

I didn't think of it like that... Poor things. Maybe? It would explain why they're following me around, but they're probably still pretty loyal to their old owner.

I caught this little guy a little before making it to Azalea because he seemed a little lost and the routes have been pretty creepy lately. But those two followed me before all of this happened.

I was worried that might be the case. You think it has anything to do with the weather lately? I learned from the last time I was here that when the weather gets weird, some things start...happening.

It happened last time around this time of the year too, oddly enough.

It wouldn't hurt to try befriending them anyway. Feed them, let them follow after you, and who knows? Maybe they'll jump into a ball for you willingly someday.

Have you tried throwing a pokeball at them?

Perhaps. I've been feeding them, wouldn't want them to starve or anything, but they don't let me get too close. I guess I'll just have to see how our relationship progresses.

First thing I tried! They were quite adamant about not getting caught, though, so I haven't tried again since then.

I feed them, but they shy away from me and won't let me get too close.

It's all you can do, really. It took a long time for the Milotic I found to warm up to me...if she hadn't been so badly exhausted when I found her I doubt she would have let me put her in a ball to begin with...

[a pause and then]

What 'coma thing' are you talking about?

Have you heard of something called "Halloween"?

[She nods.]

Huh? Oh! Well...when I was still around, sometimes people would suddenly go into a coma like state! They'd just...sleep for a week and then when they woke up, turns out time had passed for them. Or something like that.

You know how some people who come from the same world might be a little ahead or behind each other? Well when they go to sleep, it's like they go off back to their world and time passes for them there but not here....

Actually, you know what? It's pretty confusing.

"Halloween?" Oh! Oh, yes! That's right, that was a thing they were talking about last time, too! When explained to me, it wasn't like anything I have back home, but the date was nearly identical to Samhain.

That's certainly bizarre.

They don't look familiar, I assume? Perhaps they belong to someone you know.

My guess is it almost certainly has something to do with the date. Not that it's much consolation now, but it's possible that everything will be back to normal on Friday.

On the other hand, it's still early enough that the timing could be coincidence, or this could be something gathering power for an even worse effect. Either way.

Hmm...well I don't remember anyone having these guys. Besides, it's been about two years since I've been here so I don't they'd still be in their initial stages...unless they're that stubborn...

But who knows, maybe I'm just a convenient way to get food. Or...you know how they say that animals can sense things way before humans do? Maybe it's something like that. They probably knew the atmosphere was gonna get creepy and figured I'd be nice enough to protect them.

It could be! Who knows. I know weird stuff happened whenever the first wave of people who came here had the pokéversary.

Something happened on a 13th of Friday as well, though I don't remember the significance of the date.

... Pokeversary?

[ He didn't hear about anything like that, also that's an even sillier word than he's used the hearing around here. ]

...Perhaps they were your pokemon when you were here the first time.

[She shakes her head]

It's been a while, but I still remember all of my pokémon. I didn't have any bugs. But someone just told me, they may have belonged to someone else? Maybe a local who decided they didn't want them anymore.

[She laughs]

It's what I call it.

Given how attached to their pokemon the natives are, I would be surprised if anyone simply abandoned them.

Mostly it seems to be those of us who arrive the unusual way that wind up leaving their beasts to fend for themselves.

You'd be surprised. I distinctly remember meeting a pokémon who'd been mistreated and abandoned! [Tifa's really upset by this]

Simply because the pokémon was considered "weak" and the poor thing was so confused, he didn't know what to do!

[She sighs and shakes her head]

No matter where you go, there will always be awful people like that.

Hmm.

[Absently kanaya tugs her Roselia, Sunshine, into her lap and gives the little troublemaker a hug.]
